Eames Dining Set

Updated: 3 days ago

The Eames Contract Base Table and PAC Chairs are a rare example of form, function, and timeless design coming together in perfect harmony. Introduced in 1957 and released alongside the Alu Group series the following year, this set was envisioned as a chameleon: equally at home in a corporate boardroom or a casual dining space.

Evolving naturally from the earlier Model 650, the Contract Base Table traded the spider-like legs of its predecessor for a sleek, cross-shaped aluminum pedestal—instantly iconic and endlessly practical. Offered in materials like laminate, marble, and later natural veneer, and available in a variety of heights and diameters, the table’s versatility remains unmatched even today.

The PAC Chair (short for Pivoting Arm Chair on Cast Base) is equally compelling. Developed in 1952 as the Eames Office’s first true foray into office and desk seating, it was a response to earlier models that faced production challenges. The original spider base was reimagined in 1957 with a cast aluminum pedestal, bringing a new level of mobility and comfort to the iconic fiberglass shell.

Together, this pairing captures what makes Eames designs so enduring: refined silhouettes, human-centered engineering, and a modernity that hasn’t aged a day. Whether hosting friends or enjoying your morning coffee, sitting at this set feels like taking a seat in design history.
